Shopify Plus vs. Magento / Adobe Commerce

Magento gives you maximum control — and maximum complexity. The total cost of ownership for a properly maintained Magento implementation (infrastructure, security, extensions, developer time) typically runs 3–5× what Plus costs at equivalent scale. For most DTC brands, that complexity buys capabilities they never use. Plus wins decisively on total cost, time-to-market, and developer availability.

The case for Magento/Adobe is real only if you have genuinely unusual requirements: extremely complex product configuration, deep ERP integration that Shopify's API can't accommodate, or a legacy system that Magento already integrates with cleanly. These cases exist — they're just much rarer than Magento's sales cycle suggests.

Shopify Plus vs. Salesforce Commerce Cloud

SFCC is a serious platform for brands doing $50M+ who already live in the Salesforce ecosystem. Below that, the implementation costs (typically $500k–$1.5M to launch) and ongoing licensing are very difficult to justify against what Plus provides at a fraction of the cost. We've rebuilt several SFCC stores on Plus and the brands consistently find they lose nothing meaningful while dramatically reducing platform cost and operational overhead.

Where Plus has limits

Honest weaknesses: complex B2B pricing hierarchies with hundreds of price lists can still require custom development. Very large catalogs (100k+ SKUs) require careful architecture to maintain performance. And some highly regulated industries have compliance requirements that Plus's shared infrastructure doesn't accommodate. If any of these apply, we'll tell you in the scoping call — along with whether a headless architecture on top of Plus solves the problem.
